MoMA acquires Club 57 flyer from Coraggio
The Museum of Modern Art acquired a Club 57 flyer from Coraggio for “Club 57: Film, Performance, and Art in the East Village, 1978–1983,” an historic retrospective on the famed East Village nightclub. Curator Sophie Cavoulacas admitted the purchase price was more than usually paid for documentation ephemera.
Club 57 was the upbeat counterpoint to the more down, edgy nightclub life of the also famed Mudd club; both were seminal cultural meccas of the early early 1980s art scene where scores of now legendary artists and musicians showed, played and reveled in autonomous ecstasy.
